About Us
Westerton Farmers is a family-run farming business based in the Howe of Mearns, North East Scotland. The Gammie family have been farming here since 1920 and are now on the 4th generation of farmers.
The farm is a mix of arable and cattle. 40 Aberdeen Angus and Simmental cows which calve in the spring time, along side malting barley, wheat, daffodils, bulbs, seed potatoes, ware potatoes and vegetables.
All our vegetables are sold through our little farm shop – The Spud Hut – which was opened in 2017. It started with tatties, neeps and carrots and has grown to include a wide variety of vegetables grown on site and from local producers. The Spud Hut also stock fresh bread and bakes from Gannets in Laurencekirk, and jams/marmalades and chutneys from Mearns Marmalades. The most recent addition to the shop was locally produce Beef from Drumsleed Meats which is just 1.5 miles along the road from the shop.
Westerton Farmers have two open weekends each year – one in spring to look round the cows and calves, and learn all about what we do on the farm. The other is in October which is a harvest market - there are stalls where local businesses sell their produce, activities for kids and we sell our home grown pumpkins, squashes and neeps ahead of Halloween.
